The Awe of God by John Bevere week 2

Hi ladies. I wanted to share a couple of points from our book club study for week 2, The Awe of God by John Bevere. Here are a couple of points from the book and our discussion.

REVEALED AS WE ARE:

1) Your Value:

-We were bought with a high price- John 3:16, bought with the blood of Jesus.

-If God loved us one penny less than the son, the purchase would not have been made- Jn 17:23

2) Fatal Collision:

-God's presence manifest in different ways but we can only come into His presence with a heart and attitude of reverence. Acts 2

-The farther the way we are from God, the easier it is to slip into a state of irreverence.

3) God isn't: watching:

-The world dismisses the glory of God. Believes the lie that His abilities are inferior to what they actually are.

-Man puts his limitations on God

-It is possible to hide our words, action, motives to other people but not God. Ps 10:11

4) Fear and trembling:

- We mature in our salvation through fear and trembling Phil 2:12-13

-Are we dumbing down holy fear, thus the church falling away?

- At our judgement, we will not be judged for our repented sins. We will be examined by how we live as believers, both good and bad.

5) Contagious Hypocrisy:

- Hypocrisy is doing for show and pretense, it spreads, cannot stay hidden

- The fear of God frees us from fear of men. It keeps us in touch with our heart motives.

- Not one motive can be hidden from God, it will be eventually revealed.

6) Three Images:

-Perceived image- what others see

- Projected image- what we want other to see

-Actual image- who we really are

-All is visible to God 1 Corth 4:5

-Holy fear keeps us in check and enables us to live from our actual image

7) External Decisions:

- This life is only a small blimp compared to all eternity

-We prepare for eternity Heb 6:1-2

-What we do with the cross determines where we will spend eternity

-The way we live as believers determines how we will live in the forever

-Our sin is in what we don't do including missed opportunities for the kingdom, but holy fear keeps us alert to kingdom responsibilities

A lot to unpack but I hope you come back for week 3!
